Anarchy in the UK: The Archaeology of England’s First Civil War

Anarchy-image

Oliver Creighton (Professor of Archaeology, University of Exeter) as seen on C4’s ‘Time Team’ and the BBC series ‘Castles – Britain’s fortified history’ will be talking about the conflict between King Stephen and Queen Matilda during the 1100s known as ‘the Anarchy’, during which fighting swept across England, including sieges at Devizes, Trowbridge and Malmesbury, and the landscape of the West Country was devastated by rival armies. A unique opportunity to hear one of the country’s foremost experts in Medieval archaeology illuminate this dramatic chapter in history.
